the saga of piggy
Brandon has a new favorite toy. Piggy is a Richard Scarry character. He constantly plays with him. Piggy sleeps with us in the bed at night. he has a blanket, a tiny cloth which of course gets lost in the scuffle of nightly movements. I even had to include him in the laundry one time because he was so soiled and smelly. I hung him at the gate to dry up and Brandon unclasped him by noontime lest Piggy "will get burned mama". So Piggy and Brandon had been quite a couple lately. Doing a lot of things together. Going to places together. Yesterday I learned about Piggys story. He was afterall an orphan. Pig mom and dad died of old age. A motherly green frog (another stuffed toy) took care of him. A very unlikely pair-frog and pig. But all in the universal theme of: motherly love knows no boundaries. Mama frog lost all her tadpoles because "they were eaten by the enemies". Poor tadpoles, to be at the bottom of the food chain. Awhile ago, Piggy was painting his home (a fluffy, pink bedroom slipper). I did not recognize the side to side motion of his tiny arms as painting. Brandon was holding him like a puppet and he was painting the slipper. Going through the motions religiously painting every nook and cranny of the slipper home. The paintbrush and the paint are all imaginary of course. So I have to ask him what color the house is being painted in: "white, mama". So goes the adventures of Piggy and Brandon. I am sure I have not seen the end of this.

runaway bunny
i started reading to cherub 1 when he was just days old. the reading fare includes: runaway bunny, chika, chika abc, mother goose nursery rhymes, do you want to be my friend?among others. now, i have 2 girls added to my roost and the reading sessions have not ceased. i'm amazed as to how my invitation-it's reading time! is almost always responded to with shouts of sheer excitement. the kids like looking at the pictures. they never get tired if i read the adventures of brother bear and sister bear as they grow up in bear county a hundred times. sometimes the demand to read another book takes its toll on me and i have to tell them: that's enough. i feel guilty of course.
